Streets of Dirt

I heard these words in a popular country song on the radio the other day sung by a popular male singer.

I believe them streets of gold are worth the work But I still wanna go even if they were paved in dirt

They hit me hard.. these are strange times we are in.. Many people are saying it is the end times. Many people are out of work.. Many people are separated from their loved ones. Many people don’t know if they will see their husband/spouse/significant other/children/etc, again.. What a scary thought!

BUT! What a joyous thought that if we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior – we will see them again!

But I digress…. The words to the song.. I believe them streets of gold are worth the work But I still wanna go even if they were paved in dirt  - - -

Would we still want to go – even if the streets are paved in dirt?

Personally I say an absolute and resounding YES!

I am not going to see the streets (though I imagine they are beautiful).

I am not going to see the mansions built on the sides of the beautiful streets (though I imagine they are beautiful too).

I am not going just to hear the angels sing or play on their harps (though I imagine their sounds are heavenly).

I am going to see my Jesus! To sit at His feet and hear Him tell stories and listen to everyone around tell stories and praise Jesus!

Are we in the end times? I imagine we are at some point in the end times… Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote a song and the words are absolutely fitting for our lives today…

The marketplace is empty
No more traffic in the streets
All the builders' tools are silent
No more time to harvest wheat
Busy housewives cease their labors
In the courtroom no debate
Work on earth is all suspended
As the King comes thro' the gate

Is Jesus returning today? Tomorrow? Only God knows the time and place Jesus will return. And I am looking forward to finding out if the streets are gold or dirt or if there are dirt roads off the golden streets…

until then, I'm
~just being me
